better material, cool to read the sources inside
note this is analytical philosophy... so very logic based, if you cant follow the first few courses then drop immediately!!!
Must attend classes to do well...
Very funny, keep asking questions if things dont make sense, take advantage of office hours.
Open notes exam...
Note: there is a paper involved which can be both enjoyable and tedious.

It must be noted-- if you cant follow lecture drop immediately!!!
If you dont attend all lectures, you will probably not do well, unless someone knowledgeable explains it to you.
It takes a certain way of thinking to do well in the course...
LOGIC is deadly, dont take for a grade

He gives you 5 or 6 candidate questions before the tests, so there is no surprise in the tests. Dr. Johnson is very nice and you can go to his office and ask him questions about the material. | |

| 11/19/2007 | 1011 - Introduction to Philosophy I | | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 5 | Yes | Dr. Johnson is an incredible professor both in and out of class, he is extremely knowledgeable and a reliable source of information. While his "Intro" class is less an introduction to philosophy then an introduction to logical argument you can rest assured you will gain something from his class - even if its only that vivisecting babies in a bathtub on a nightly basis is immoral. There is no classwork or homework his only requirement is that you think - attendance of the lectures while not mandatory is HIGHLY recommended. Your grade depends on how well you can "explain and critically evaluate" arguments on his midterm and final. You can use notes during the test but you have to understand what your writing, assuming you want to do well.

Professor Johnson is hilarious and succeeds in demonstrating what modern philosophy is all about. Not for the slow thinker. He can talk very fast and sometimes be unclear but will always allow for questions to clarify. The only annoying part is when pseudo-intellectuals hijack the class with their our discussions but all and all a worthy course. | |
