01/17/2011 | 1931H - Writing As Blogging | | 4.8 | 4 | 5 | 5 | 5 | Yes | I took him for a Freshman Honors Seminar, and I found that his grading was not too harsh. In response to an earlier rating which commented on this prof not being able to give out too many A's, this is a YU policy and not reflective of this prof in particular. As far as teaching style, he is extremely nice, helpful and genuinely wants his students to do well and become better writers. If you take this class, TALK TO HIM ABOUT EVERY PAPER BEFORE YOU SUBMIT IT. This is a great way to make sure he will like what you are writing. While the classes themselves may be boring, as long as you pay attention for part of them and make some contributions, you should be fine, especially because much of the lecture is rehashing old ideas.

12/03/2009 | 1101 - Composition and Rhetoric I | | 4.2 | 3 | 5 | 4 | 5 | Yes | I took McGahan for my freshman honors seminar. I had heard that he was really hard and was dreading the class. To be honest i was really surprised. His grading on essay's is really not bad at all. In fact i don't know anyone who has gotten under a B on any paper and that's pretty rare. If you're a decent writer You should pull at least an A-. Also he's extremely accessible to students, and really tries to help them out. The one thing i will say is that his class is excruciatingly boring, but he tends to pick readings that are interesting enough.
11/30/2008 | 1101 - Composition and Rhetoric I | | 3.5 | 3 | 4 | 4 | 3 | Yes | He pretty annoying to listen to because he rants and drawls. he seems to hate giving out a's. on the bright side he doesnt assign as many essays as other classes. hes an easy b if thats what ur lookin for.
05/26/2008 | 4551 - Topics in Literature | | 3.2 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 5 | No | I took him for Race and Identity in American Literature. It was an interesting class and the required reading was understandable for the most part but because its a senior course he gives about 250 pages to read a week. It is hard to understand what he is looking for on essay topics. Almost impossible to get above a B+ no matter how hard you work unless you are a great writer to begin with. Those kinds of courses are annoying because the grade is more subjective than it is with math/science.
04/07/2008 | 1101 - Composition and Rhetoric I | | 3.0 | 4 | 3 | 1 | 4 | No | Terrible grader, very hard to get an A
12/08/2007 | 1101 - Composition and Rhetoric I | | 2.8 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 3 | No | Basically, no one can really understand him. It seems over the years he is getting harder. Told a kid once that he wouldn't give him an A minus on essay because he already gave out one. He gives hardly any work but you will probably end up getting a B to B plus.
01/22/2007 | 1101 - Composition and Rhetoric I | | 4.2 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 5 | Yes | Unless you're an amazng writer, you won't get an A
