01/08/2012 | 4202 - Masterpieces of Literature II | | 4.5 | 5 | 4 | 4 | 5 | Yes | Dr. Weidhorn keeps the class lively and exciting. He has common themes that he likes to attach/apply to nearly all the readings in his class. Doing the readings will not help your grade at all- it is totally unnecessary to do any of the readings. His midterms and finals are straight spitback, and not difficult. He is not an easy paper grader, but he's not looking for anything amazing. He just wants to see perfectly grammatically correct sentences, and smooth transitions. He hates generalizations and unsubstantiated claims. He does not like when intro paragraphs tell the reader what's gonna come- rather, intros should just make the reader interested.
There is not too work for his classes. Usually 2 short papers (2-3 pages) and a final paper (10 pages), plus midterm and final.
05/18/2011 | 1932H - Truths and Consequences | | 4.0 | 4 | 5 | 3 | 4 | Yes | He is a very difficult grader on papers, but his comments are extremely helpful and will really improve a student's writing. His classes are interesting/entertaining. Very old school lit- reads classics and discusses major and broad themes. Unlike many professors in YU, no post-modernism. He is also very skeptical toward systems of thought and dogmatism. To those who are concerned, he is a heretic. He's also pretty left-wing politically, although he recognizes the liberals' shortcomings. He pushes students to think and poses challenging questions. Sometimes allows for students to rewrite papers. Workload is manageable. Recommend (but too difficult for Comp I).
06/20/2010 | 4202 - Masterpieces of Literature II | | 5.0 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | Yes | This teacher is the bomb! If the other prof's were like him the college experience would be something to look forward to every class. Knowledgeable, entertaining, doesn't put you to sleep, isn't pretentious about the material etc
01/20/2009 | 4202 - Masterpieces of Literature II | | 4.5 | 5 | 5 | 5 | 3 | Yes | One of the three easier lits (the other two are Guy and Sugarman). This class is good in terms of da ma shatashiv. I've heard people say you should ask a sheila before taking the class, but I haven't come across anything that provocative in the class. Besides you don;t have to do the readings or ever show up to class (even thoguh he says he takes attendance he always winds up losing the attendance sheet). 03/25/2008 | 4202 - Masterpieces of Literature II | | 4.2 | 5 | 5 | 3 | 4 | Yes | It's not the most serious of classes. He seems like he makes a lot of stuff up, but all lit classes are like that. As far as it goes, his class is more entertaining than most, and he's a good guy. He's a pretty hard grader, but I would still recommend him. [ 1/1 people found this rating helpful. ]
