09/08/20136101 - Criminal Law2.21224NoCould barely hear him in class. Not helpful at all.
09/04/20126101 - Criminal Law4.03355YesI didn't open the book and I got an A. Just go to class, listen to what he says, and study the old exam answers. You don't have to understand everything, just be able to spew out every possible argument and counter argument for each side on the exam. Your exam answer should be in the format of "P says ___, D says ___, P says ___, D says ___." You won't get any credit for fluff or even complete sentences. Also, don't forget to learn the little 'mens rea elements' diagrams he does in class. I think those can make or break your exam grade.
07/10/20107118 - Criminal Procedure2.82234Yeshis classes are terribly hard to follow because he jumps around between topics, and his exam is ridiculous. I had 7-pg single spaced fact pattern! But, his grading is fair.
04/18/20097118 - Criminal Procedure3.53434YesPeople complain about not being able to follow the professors narrative. This may just be due to the difficulty of the material. Perhaps the professor could be a little clearer, but it is not a deal-breaker. Nice guy. 4th Amdt. law is very convoluted, not the professors fault.
11/26/20087118 - Criminal Procedure3.53425YesWhile I don't like the heavy reliance on hypos, I would recommend Huigens for this course. He knows what he's talking about and does not rush the subject.
09/29/20086101 - Criminal Law3.02424YesConfusing but authoritative
09/18/20087572 - Copyright Law4.23545YesProf. Huiggens is the type of professor that some people love, and some people dont. Personally, I think he's great. He is always willing to explain things, and he's an academic. He's not impressed by the what and where, he's impressed by the why. He's the man.
08/25/20086101 - Criminal Law3.22425NoConfusing course, though the final is not based on what you learned all semester. Study the MPC and old tests and you should be able to pull out a B
05/08/20087118 - Criminal Procedure3.52435YesHuigens is the man! Taken him for crim law and procedure. He's a bit difficult to understand because his level of mastery is way out there but he will keep rephrasing and rephrasing until you tell him you're satisfied. Has a lot of insightful comments and his exams are very fair. Nothing like the otherworldly stuff you talk about in class. Just straight black-letter law. Amazingly nice but I feel bad for him sometimes. It seems like he hates life.

03/14/20076101 - Criminal Law3.02334Nook, maybe you do get a good overview of the MPC but in my opinion you actually learn very little about crimina law. Also, as the rumor goes he does not teach for the bar exam and so you have to learn crim law by yourself. Not a very good professor-a bit boring, not clear and coherent all the time...Exam has very little to do with his class.
02/05/20076101 - Criminal Law3.83435YesInteresting teacher, though unpredictable in class
02/03/20076101 - Criminal Law4.03535YesHands down one of the best professors at Cardozo. He makes you think and you come out with a good understanding of the model penal code. He is very upfront and tells you the first day that he teaches criminal law differently than most because he focuses almost entirely on the MPC. He is funny, very liberal, and helpful. His door is always open and he's also just a good person. I didn't do great in his class, but would highly recommend him. Read the Peter Lowe hornbook he recommends, it's a good supplement to his method.
